Swansea City Terminate Kuqi's Contract

Swansea City have terminated Shefki Kuqi's contract by mutual consent.

The 34 year-old Finish striker has fallen out of favour with Brendan Rodgers and was recently on loan with fellow Championship side Derby County.

Former boss Paulo Sousa signed the frontman a year ago on a free transfer and scored 5 goals in 14 League starts for the Swans.

He only made 2 substitute appearances this season in the Championship and he was never the type of striker that Rodgers felt suited his team and style of play.

Rodgers told BBC Sport:

'I have the greatest respect for Shekfi as a player and a person,'

'Unfortunately it hasn't worked out for him him this season because he hasn't played as much as he would have liked.'

Ipswich editor here. Was a bit disappointed to hear about this - Kuqi's still a very popular figure around Town and there's not many fans that wouldn't secretly want to see him back at Portman Road. Met him a few weeks ago - cracking bloke and I hope it works out for him somewhere.

A good footballer Darren,sadly he never seemed fully fit here at Swansea but you can't fault his heart. Good luck to him!

Really nice guy but sadly well past his best when he came to play for us, who could forget his open goal miss at the Liberty against Barnsley last season
