'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodgers Praises 'Professional Performance'

Brendan Rodgers praised his team's 'professional performance' in today's 4-0 FA Cup 3rd round home win against Colchester United.

It was far from an excellent performance from the Swans but they did what they needed to, and gave the 6,800 home fans 4 goals to witness in a comfortable victory.

Rodgers said:

'We controlled and dominated possession very well and it was a highly professional performance,'

'In three of the last six seasons Swansea have gone out at this stage of the FA Cup, so it is great to go through.

'That's the most important thing - we're in the draw for the fourth round. I know the fans would like us to have a big cup tie, but I'd be happy with a home draw.

'I'm not one of those managers who sees the FA Cup as a distraction. I want to keep winning games to build momentum at the club and I want to go as far as we possibly can in the competition because it offers so many opportunities.'

Rodgers also said he was gutted to see Monk go off with what looked like a serious knee injury:

'It isn't looking too good for Garry and we've sent him home to gather his thoughts ahead of a scan on his knee on Sunday,'

'I'm gutted for him because he had just scored his first goal of the season. Losing him for a period of time will be a big blow for us.

'He has had a bad injury on that knee before and he could be out for the rest of the season. That would be a massive blow for us because he has been a fantastic leader both on and off the field all season.'
