Reading manager Brian McDermott says he's targeting automatic promotion this season, as he prepares his side for Saturday's game at Swansea City.
A win against another promotion-chasing rival on New Years Day would give their promotion hopes a big boost as they lie in 6th place, 6 points behind us but with a game in hand.
"After 23 games we`re sixth in the league,"
"Listen, I think there is going to be a twist in the league this season.
"QPR look like they`re going to do and it looks like they`ve got the personnel. But you look at Cardiff losing on Tuesday, and you look that other automatic place, the teams in the play-off positions are so close behind."
"We wanted to go to Swansea with the chance of going above them,"
"But they beat Barnsley on Tuesday so we have to go there and try to get closer to them. They also beat us at home but we will look forward to going across there."
"All I can do is focus completely on Swansea and then Burnley,"
"These boys are strong and fit and they can play four games, there`s no doubt about that.
" I`m excited about next year because our lads are in a good place. This is an emerging team but they can go to a difficult place like Hull and know what`s required to get a result.
"I wasn`t happy with our first half performance. I said at half time that we couldn`t keep playing like that. Our fans travelled how many miles and we had to put on a second-half performance. We did that and, at 1-1, I thought we would win it."
Swansea City got a vital home win on Tuesday against Barnsley and another against Reading on Saturday would help us forget and move on from a recent dip in form. Our confidence isn't as high as it was earlier in the season and we've also struggled for goals recently. Reading will be a tough game as a recent run of good results as seen them rise up the table from 14th to 6th.
