'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodgers Praises 'Excellent Performance'

Brendan Rodgers was delighted to see his side get back to winning ways today with a 1-0 victory at home to Barnsley.

Swansea City had lost their previous two games, both on their travels at Sheffield United (1-0) and QPR (4-0) respectively, and it was vital that we got 3 points with a home game against the Tykes.

Jermaine Easter got the all-important goal in the first half, and thankfully we didn't pay for a host of missed chances during the game, as Barnsley went close late on to snatching a point.

Rodgers said:

'We were always calm and we created lots of chances. It was an excellent performance,'

'The players have been excellent all season and their reaction after Sunday's 4-0 defeat was fantastic. We always knew QPR was going to be a tough, tough game.

'But win, lose or draw against QPR we said we had to come into the Barnsley game in a positive frame of mind and carry on playing like we have been all season.

'We could have come into it being a little bit negative, but the huge resolve of this group of players shone through.

'We are all about being offensive and being creative, but the reaction from the players in keeping a clean sheet after conceding four goals two days earlier was tremendous.

'We have got to this point in the season by playing the way we do and we must keep doing that as we move into the new year.'

The 3 points today sees the Swans go 3rd, level on points (40) with Cardiff City (2nd) and Leeds United (4th).

This was certainly not an excellent performance, just average. We created some more chances today but also Barnsley had 2 or 3 excellent chances too. We still don't have the drive to get the ball forward quickly enough apart fron Dyer who was by far our best player. I don't know why Easter was brought off instead of Dobbie who was poor. Surely Easter can't be tired--he hasn't played a lot of football lately, has he? And why wasn't Augustien playng. Orlandi was ineffective although why he lasted the full 90 minutes at the expense of Gower was surprising to say the least. Saturday will be much more difficult against Reading and it will be interesting to see what side Rodgers picks. 6 out of 10 today only.
