Rodgers Tells Players To Sign Up or Be Sold

Rodgers Tells Players To Sign Up or Be Sold

Brendan Rodgers has told his players to sign new contracts are at the club or be sold on if they current deals expire next Summer.

The Swansea City manager is reported to be unhappy with the current situation at the club, where the likes of Darren Pratley, Angel Rangel and Dorus De Vries could leave in June 2011 for free.

In the Summer we lost Leon Britton for free because he rejected a new contract and joined Sheffield United. Rodgers doesn't want the same happening again - losing key first team players for nothing.

Next year we risk the same, as Pratley has rejected to enter new contract talks, but Rodgers admits he's most likely to play through to the end of his current deal, rather than be sold in January.

'From next year, if people are going into the last year of their contracts and they are not going to sign, then as a football club we need to try to earn what we can,'

'I think that unless there's some special dispensation involved, that's what you have to do from a business perspective.'

'Thankfully, I have no worries about the attitude of any of the players who are in their last year now,' he said.

'But it's a situation I would prefer not to have.

'Some of it is out of my control and it's not something I like.

'I like the players to feel valued, and I like to know where we are going with the squad as well.'

'I think Darren will be one where we see it through until the end of the season and see where that takes us.

'Hopefully, if we have a good season, we will see how things work out and we could be in a position to offer contracts that are acceptable.

'But as it stands, we will just continue as we are.'
