Pratley Still Refuses To Sign New Contract

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Darren Pratley is still not interested in beginning new contract talks.

The 25 year-old midfielder said earlier in the year that he didn't want to begin talks of a new deal until the end of the season as he was disappointed by how long the club took to offer him new terms.

"It's no secret, he's going to Forest. Ask anybody how well he played against them, he was diabolical. I wonder why?"

Brendan Rodgers was hoping to tempt him to change his mind, but Pratley is still refusing to extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium. His current deal expires next June where we risk losing him on a free, but despite his lack of loyalty, Rodgers says he still has a key role to play in the first team this year:

'After talks broke down in the summer I wanted to let it be for a few months so Darren could concentrate on his football,'

'I spoke to him again last week in relation to the contract offer, but he still wants to leave it for now so we will take it from there and see where we are at the end of the season.

'I think one thing Darren has seen is that the club are moving forward. He wanted to see that and hopefully people can see that the next two or three seasons are going to be exciting here.

'But I understand his situation. Like a lot of players, he feels this is a big contract for him. But he is a good lad and there are no problems with him.'

'Darren has had a lot going on this year, and no doubt the decision on his contract will not have been easy for him mentally,'

'But he is a terrific professional. He lives for football, he trains hard and he looks after himself, and I like that.

'He has put the contract situation to one side and he is up to playing every game. He has got attributes which mean that like the others, he will get better and better as the season goes on.

'If I had any worries about his commitment or anything like that, then there would be a problem.

'But he has still got the same desire and he wants to do well for this football club.'
