Gower 'Couldn't Be Happier' After Signing New Deal

Mark Gower said he 'couldn't be happier' after putting pen to paper on a new deal which keeps him at the club until 2012.

The midfielder admitted that he had doubts about his future in the Summer, but following Rodgers' arrival, Gower has looked like a new player and is enjoying his new central role.

The former Southend United player, 32, has always been used as a wide player and went through a long frustrating spell without scoring. The pressure's off him now to score goals, as he has adapted quickly to his new and different responsibilities in the holding role.

Gower said:

I couldn't be happier,''

'If I'm honest, during pre-season I thought my future at the club looked bleak.

'We didn't have a manager and the wide positions were looking strong. I was worried about not getting in the team and I am not they type who would be happy sitting on the bench. Things looked uncertain.

'But the new gaffer came in, switched me to a new position in the holding role and I'd like to think that my performances have earned me the new contract.

'It's probably my best spell at the club and I am delighted to sign a new deal.

'We've got a great manager and a great squad with the perfect blend of youth and experience.

'After going to Cardiff and coming away with such a good victory, you can't help but think that this year could be our year.''

Manager Brendan Rodgers praised Gower and showed his delight at him signing a new contract:

'I'm delighted Mark has committed himself to the club for another season,''

'He's been outstanding from the very first day I arrived at the club - on and off the pitch.

'I've got no doubt that he will continue to be a great influence over the next few season.''
