Legg Backs 'Fantastic' Williams To Beat Record

Andy Legg is backing Ashley Williams to beat his current record of 106 straight League appearances - which the defender equalled last weekend at Crystal Palace.

The Welsh international looks set to beat the record on Sunday when we face Cardiff City in the South Wales derby.

Legg, who holds the record along with Gilbert Beech, is a big admirer of Ashley Williams and said:

'I received a plaque for the achievement, and I got a phone call last week telling me he was going to equal it,'

'It's a fantastic achievement for Ashley Williams. It goes to show what a good player he is and what managers think of him, because Roberto (Martinez), Paulo (Sousa) and Brendan (Rodgers) have all stuck with him.

'He's been consistent in his performance and fortunate with injuries — you need a bit of luck as well as ability.

'Records are there to be broken and it's fantastic for me to have gone this long with it. Now I hope he goes way past it.'
