Newcastle & Wigan Linked With Move For Pratley

Newcastle & Wigan Linked With Move For Pratley

Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic have both been linked with a move for Darren Pratley.

The midfielder cancelled new contract talks with the club earlier this year - saying he was frustrated by how long the Swans to offer him a new deal. His current one expires at the end of the season and we could risk losing him for free next Summer.

It's no surprise to see Wigan linked with a move for Pratley, as it won't be the first time that former Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has raided his old club for players. He failed in his last-minute attempts to buy Leon Britton in January.

We're in a similar predicament with Pratley this season as we were with Leon Britton the last. A player whose contract runs out in the Summer and one who is unlikely to sign a new one. Pratley may well feel it's time to move on to a Premiership club - like he hinted earlier in the year when he told the media that he didn't want to sign a new contract at the Liberty Stadium. The Swans are showing their best chance yet at reaching the top flight after a promising start to the season, and while I don't want to boast about our chances too soon, even if we did get there in May, would it affect Pratley's decision on where his future lies?

We'll have to wait and see what happens in the January transfer window, but I would be surprised if no clubs make a bid for the 25 year-old midfielder in the New Year.
