New Goalkeeper Looking Forward To His Debut

New goalkeeper Yves Makabu-Makalambay says he's looking forward to making his debut tonight in the Carling Cup at Peterborough United.

The big 6ft 6in shot stopper has signed for Swansea City until the end of the season, and he showed his delight at being reunited with manager Brendan Rodgers who he worked with at Chelsea.

Yves is now aiming to push Dorus De Vries for the number one place and aims to give Rodgers a selection headache when choosing between his goalkeepers:

'Dorus is an experienced and top class 'keeper,''

'I've been very impressed working with him - and young David Cornell - in training and watching him in the last two games.

'But competition is always very healthy and I am a guy who loves a challenge. I believe in myself and I will do all I can to give the manager a nice headache to chose between the two goalkeepers.''

'I've been here three weeks now and while it's been really enjoyable I'm glad the deal is finally done,''

'The manager has shown real faith to start me at Peterborough. I've known Brendan since our Chelsea days and I've always got on well with him. He's a great man.

'It's a pleasure to work with him again and it's great to see that he has stuck to his principles of playing football on the floor.

'I watched the Swans in their last two home games and been very impressed with the way they play attacking football and an emphasis on scoring goals.

'I'm really looking forward to tonight's game at Peterborough. It's always a massive thing for any player to make his debut.''

Rodgers also seems confident that he can add plenty of competition for the number 1 goalkeeper place:

'He's a fantastic addition to the group and he'll challenge Dorus. I've worked with him before and I genuinely feel he can push hard for the position. He's very commanding in the box and is comfortable at set-pieces and crosses.

'What we have at the moment is a number one keeper in Dorus. He has got experience and has played regularly here since he arrived. Then we had a gap in between. Of course, we have a very good young keeper in David Cornell, so the arrival of Yves is important to us.''
