Gower: 'We're Going In The Right Direction'

Mark Gower insists things are going in the right direction despite a second League defeat in 3 games for Swansea City.

Brendan Rodgers' side are still looking for their first win on their travels after losing 2-0 at both Hull City on opening day; and Norwich City yesterday afternoon.

Despite 2 defeats in three games in the Championship, the players and manager remain positive after showing some encouraging performances, but we still need to find better quality in the final third to take the chances that we're creating in games.

Swansea City had 60% possession at Carrow Road yesterday but they wasted a number of good chances - none better than Cotterill's missed penalty in the 86th minute, which had it gone in would surely have won us the game. Nevertheless, we now look to bounce back with two games this week, starting with Tranmere Rovers in the Carling Cup 2nd round on Tuesday night, before hosting Burnley on Saturday.

Mark Gower told BBC Sport:

'There's a lot to take out. It's not a disappointing defeat, it's one we can look at and think things are going in the right direction,'

'We just need to get a bit of consistency again, we had it last year but the last 10 games didn't go to plan.

'Obviously there's not much consistency at the start of the season, but the season - apart from the results - has started well.

'Apart from the Hull game we demolished Preston and we've pretty much done the same [at Norwich] apart from the result.

'There's a game Tuesday night and hopefully we'll bounce back there.'

'There's tough games every week in the Championship but it's a different story on our home turf, Swansea's a hard place to come for teams so we'll be looking to get a positive result next week,'

I don't understand the facination with managers for Mark Gower. he has consistently been a poor player for us, yet gets in the side week in week out. He was brought to the Swans as a winger yet first Sousa now Rodgers play him in central midfield both overlooking the excellent Joe Allen. Joe Allen was perfectly fit last Saturday yet was left on the bench, not even coming on a sub---Very strange. Is Gower a good talker??? Is that how he gets in? He was reasonable against Preston but everyone played well and Preston's midfield was awful. Let's understand something---we need our best players playing in their preferred positions. We are playing four wingers at the moment---eventually it will catch up to us. Be quiet please Mr. Gower--play well then talk--ok?
