Swansea City Sign Chelsea's Scott Sinclair

Swansea City have today received a massive boost with the news that they have completed the signing of Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair.

"What a first signing to make!!! I can't wait to see him playing on Saturday now."

The Swans have paid an initial 500,000 fee to the Premiership club for the youngster, but this could rise beyond 1million depending on various add-ons.

Sinclair has signed a 3 year contract at the Liberty Stadium after deciding to leave Chelsea after a 5-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

The signing is subject to Football League and Premier League clearance and he'll be unavailable for Tuesday night's home match against Barnet in the Carling Cup.

Brendan Rodgers has been looking to strengthen his squad recently and he'll be delighted to secure the signing of an excellent young player who no doubt will add plenty of competition for first-team places.

The Swansea City boss has worked with Sinclair before, when he was Youth Team Manager at Stamford Bridge. The 21 year-old was on loan at Wigan Athletic last season where he scored 1 goal in 18 appearances.

The Swans have managed to fend off interest from a number of other clubs who were hoping to secure his services including Premiership new-boys Blackpool.

Rodgers told the Official Site:

"Scott is obviously a player I know well and I am delighted to sign him,''

"It's a massive coup for us because he is a big talent and has been a sought after player since he broke on to the scene.

"As far as I am concerned, there's no better place for him than Swansea City. With this group of players, style of football, fantastic fans and a manager who knows him well, this will be a great club for his development.

"He is only 21 and still has big potential. I think this will be a good home for him, where he can come and play and realise that full potential because I know what he is capable of.

"He is a great signing for the present and the future and joins a group of exciting young players that includes the likes Joe Allen, David Cotterill and Nathan Dyer.''

Chairman Huw Jenkins added:

"While everyone is aware that we run a tight ship here financially, we will always invest in the team when funds are available. I think this signing highlights our intent.

"It is also the club's priority to invest in bright, young talent wherever possible - and I don't think you will find many young players with the talent that Scott possesses.

"We have been fortunate that he has worked closely with Brendan in the past. Brendan was one of the attractions for Scott, but there was also the style of football we play and the fantastic playing surface we have here at the Liberty Stadium.

"I'm sure our supporters will be excited about Scott joining us and watching him perform in a Swans shirt.''

Swansea City fans have criticised the team's lack of firepower up front and Scott Sinclair definitely has the quality to boost our attacking play.

Welcome to the Liberty Stadium Scott!

good talent, quick, but unfortunatley didnt have the right chances to develop at chelsea, if he stayed with bristol rovers till he was 18 then moved to a club lie arsenal he would have easily become the next theo walcott type player. wish him the best of luck with swansea cus theyve got quite a player on their hands :)

pains me to say it - but this seems a fantastic signing - he's twice the player of Nathan Dyer

look after him, he promised so much when he was at SB!

Exactly the player we need, he looks a superb buy and what a bargain. We really need a winger who can score at this level Sinclair can certainly do that. Aguestien to sign plus a new striker and things are looking a lot better.
