Jenkins: Rodgers' First Target is Survival

Huw Jenkins says Brendan Rodgers' first target for Swansea City next season is survival.

The Swansea City chairman says the first target every year is to survive in the Championship, and with a new manager in place, Jenkins is simply looking for Brendan Rodgers to stabilise the club.

Former boss Paulo Sousa managed a 7th place finish last season, but Rodgers faces a very tough job in matching that next year.

Jenkins told the Evening Post:

'Our first target is the same every year and that is to stay in the Championship,'

'Our principles remain the same all the time, and the goal before each season starts is to guarantee we will spend another season at this level.

'We will see how things go over the weeks and months ahead and then maybe we can reassess things.

'But with a new manager coming in, first and foremost we have to keep things stable by staying where we are.'

The Swansea Chairman believes Rodgers is the man to continue our excellent progress in the second tier of English football, he added:

'We needed to bring in someone who could bring the club back together,'

'We wanted someone who would quietly move this club forward, to carry on the good work we have done over the past few years.

'I feel we have that man in Brendan.

'He is young, enthusiastic, confident, a good talker and a good leader.

'As well as all that, his football principles are like ours, which was always a priority.'
