'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodgers Interviewed For Swansea City Job

Former Watford and Reading boss Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a possible candidate for the Swansea City manager's job.

Rodgers has applied for the role and chairman Huw Jenkins says he has spoken to him 'at length' about the role.

"When you are looking for people who are comfortable playing football our way, which is essential for us, Brendan Rodgers is someone who comes to mind,"

"He was highly thought of at Chelsea, he did a good job at Watford and then things didn`t go as he would have liked them to at Reading for a variety of reasons. But he is somebody we have talked about from day one because of his footballing beliefs.

There would be no point in us going for a manager who does not share our beliefs because when pressure builds or results go wrong, even if certain games aren`t going well, managers will quickly revert to what they believe in."

'Brendan Rodgers was one of the first names to come into us,'

'When we looked around leagues and managers that adopt our kind of football, our thoughts on the way the club should be run, the way we play and train.

'Brendon going by what he has achieved at Chelsea and then moved on to Watford, has got those principles and has always been a candidate from day one.

'I've spoken to him at length like I have with a few potential managers.

Jenkins was hoping to appoint a new manager yesterday (Monday), but he now says he hopes to bring someone in this week. Rodgers now seems to be one of the favourites, but we're still not giving up on our number 1 target Gary Speed - currently first team coach at Sheffield United.

"I would support him if he were to be employed, I'd support and get behind anyone who comes in regardless of whether i rate them or not, but my point is i don't think Rodgers has earned the right as a manager yet to be seen as someone with great credit entails and i personally don't see him as the man to take us forward."

Did a good job at Watford when they were struggling but didnt work out for him at Reading. Good choice IMO - especially with the other names linked to the job (Adkins and Reid) :P
