Jenkins Rules Out Speed For Manager

Jenkins Rules Out Speed For Manager

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has ruled out the possibility of appointing Gary Speed as our new manager.

The Sheffield United has been the strong favourite this week to replace Paulo Sousa, but the Blades rejected Swansea's approach for the Welshman.

Jenkins has confirmed today that they have ended their interest in Gary Speed and will move on to pursue other targets on their shortlist:

"As was the case with a few managers, an approach was made for Gary,"

"It was turned down though and, once that happens, there is nothing we can do about it.

"That`s why you have several options. It`s not a disappointment as such because I have done this job long enough to know that you can`t just focus on one target.

"Sometimes they don`t come off and you accept that no means no. In terms of Gary, that brings an end to it."

"If Speed just recently signed a 3 year deal on non playing terms, then he cannot have any desire to go into management any time soon, otherwise he would have inserted a management release clause in his contract to join someone for a nominal fee. It seems Sheff U are playing hardball, and thus its making a move for Speed unrealisitic at the moment."
