Jenkins: We Don't Need To Sell Key Players

&maxoutputSwansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has said it would make 'no sense' to sell our key players as we look to build and strengthen for the start of the new season on August 7th.

After losing two first-team players this Summer for no transfer fees - Leon Britton and Fede Bessone - the Swans can't really afford to lose any more as we hope to fend off interest in the likes of Darren Pratley and Ashley Williams.

Jenkins says we need to hold on to our key players as they'll play a big role in the club's future plans:

'In the current climate and situation regarding the new rules, it is becoming very difficult to move players around freely,'

'The way we work as a football club is within our budget. That's the sensible way to do things.

'It would make no sense getting rid of our top players. We have a plan in place for next season and they are a big part of that.

'Yes, we do have to monitor the situation regarding players over a certain age within our squad, but if we are looking for new players then we would look to move on the fringe players that didn't feature much in the first-team squad last season.

'Players leaving clubs are part and parcel of football. It happens at any level. Ronaldo left Manchester United, Joe Cole is leaving Chelsea.

'But we need to make sure we keep hold of our better players to ensure we maintain the progress we have made over the last few seasons.'
