Martinez, Murphy & Forbes Released

We can now confirm the news we reported yesterday that Roberto Martinez has left the club after not being offered a new contract

Also leaving will be right winger Adrian Forbes and young goalkeeper Brian Murphy.

Kevin Austin was also expected to leave but he has made enough appearances this year for a clause in his contract which means a guaranteed contract extension.

The centre back had the most votes in our forum poll which asked viewers for who should be released in the Summer.

Kenny Jackett explained his decisions and said:

"Adrian and Roberto have played a lot of games during my time here and I thank them for everything they have done," Jackett said.

"In Adrian's case, the emergence of Leon Britton on the right and more recently Shaun MacDonald has contributed towards my decision.

"And with Roberto, central midfield is an area I'll be looking at this summer. We brought Darren Way in back in January but it's a position I'll be aiming to strengthen again.

"Both Roberto and Adrian have been terrific servants for the club and they have been part of some fantastic achievements.

"Brian Murphy is a talented young keeper but his opportunities have been limited because of the outstanding form of Willy Gueret.

"I've told Brian he needs to go somewhere and play first-team football because another year in the reserves will not do him any good.

"I think he will come through because he has great ability, but another year at Swansea might see him going backwards."

Martinez has been a great servant for the club over the last 3 years and played a huge role when we were fighting against relegation from the Football League.

Despite constant criticism, Adrian Forbes always put in 100% and you can't ask for more than that. The ability wasn't there for a right winger but he did score some important goals last season as we got promotion to League One.

Brian Murphy never really managed to stamp down a place in the starting line-up with Gueret coming in and playing brilliantly last season.

We'd like to wish all 3 players all the best with their new clubs next season.
