Orlandi Stalling On New Contract

Swansea City are looking at other midfield options while Andrea Orlandi mulls over a new contract offer.

Manager Paulo Sousa could potentially lose 3 key midfielders this maybe, possibly more, as Darren Pratley and Leon Britton are being targetted by other clubs. Andrea Orlandi is also considering his options.

It was a similar situation this time last year regarding the Spaniard, when he thought long and hard before putting pen to paper on a 1-year deal.

Orlandi struggled to get regular first team football in his first two seasons under Roberto Martinez, but he showed much more potential when Paulo Sousa arrived and moved him from the wing and into a central position in midfield.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said:

'We have been discussing terms with Andrea and his representatives for the past six months,'

'He has not committed himself because he wants to weigh up his options, so Paulo (Sousa) has to weigh up his options, too.

'We have discussed other midfield players who might be available and it will be up to Paulo what he wants to do.'

'At the moment we are waiting to hear back from his agent,'

'We had the same situation with Andrea last year, and we have to accept that some players will wait until the last minute before signing an agreement because they want to weigh up their options.

'By the time Andrea signed a new deal last year, we had already started pre-season training.

'We fully understand that in this day and age, more and more players are allowing their contracts to run out so they have the freedom to decide what they do next.'

Orlandi has still to show his full potential and ability yet, even after three seasons at the Liberty Stadium and it would be a shame to lose a player who could develop into an excellent Championship midfielder.

"How I long for the days when contracts were signed early February, or statements of "I'm not staying" came out mid March, so we could all stop wondering when a player is whoreing himself out via his agent, will he actually stay or not."
