Britton Set For Wigan Athletic Move

Leon Britton looks set to leave Swansea City and join Wigan Athletic on a free transfer - joining up with former midfield partner and manager Roberto Martinez.

You could say it was inevitable in the end that we'd lose Britton, but the former West Ham United player did reveal recently that his request for contract talks at Swansea City were rejected by the board.

You could blame the club for not getting Leon Britton under a longer contract - as it looks like we'll lose a key midfielder now for nothing.

His future at the Liberty Stadium has been in doubt since last year, when he rejected the chance to enter talks about a new deal.

Roberto Martinez tried signing him at the end of the January transfer window but the Spaniard failed with a late bid, but it looks like he'll now sign him on a free. Britton is currently on holiday but the Wigan Evening Post believe he'll sign for the Latics following his return.

The Swans face the tough task this Summer of keeping hold of our key players. Darren Pratley, Angel Rangel, Dorus De Vries and Ashley Williams could also attract the interest of bigger clubs during pre-season.

Hardly unexpected, but let's hope this is the LAST we see of Wigan taking our players. I do wish Leon well he's been very good for us, although I don't envy him, as ex-Swans faces have not really impressed Wigan fans much this season - there will be a massive mountain to climb there.

Rather say this is the next ex-Swansea man set to fail at Wigan. All the best though Leon, you will remain a Swansea legend forever.
