Jenkins: Parachute Payments Will Make It Difficult

Huw Jenkins says parachute payments for clubs who are relegated from the Premiership make it difficult for clubs like Swansea City to compete.

Despite of that though, our chairman says they'll find other ways to be successful in the Championship.

Clubs coming down from the Premiership will enter the Championship with extra money - and will therefore be able to compete better as they can offer higher transfer fees and player wages.

Huw Jenkins is one of a number of people who are against the new parachute payments system and he told the Evening Post:

'We are facing the prospect of seeing six or eight sides in the Championship having double or treble the amount to spend that others have,'

'All that's going to do is push wages up and make it difficult for clubs like us when it comes to trying to keep our best players.

'If you look at the facts of the situation, there are some in our position who might not want to get out of bed in the morning.

'But you have got to relish that challenge and that's what Swansea City will do.'

'Let's not hide from the fact, the financial gap is going to widen over the next few years and that's going to make it harder for clubs like us,' Jenkins added.

'But we will face the challenge head on and, as we have done in the past, we will find ways to cope.

'We will work to make sure that we bring players through our youth set-up and we will make sure that we have a very good scouting system in place.

'We will work harder than everybody else and we will take decisions to bring players in that maybe other clubs would not take.'
