Painter First Player To Leave Swansea City

Painter First Player To Leave Swansea City

Left back Marcos Painter has become the first out of contract player to leave Swansea City, after he agreed to make his loan move to Brighton & Hove Albion permanent.

The former Birmingham City defender struggled with injuries early on under new boss Paulo Sousa and was unable to retain his regular first team spot at left back. Instead, Sousa has chosen Fede Bessone, Alan Tate and loanee David Edgar ahead of him.

Painter said earlier in the season that he expected to leave the club.

He has signed a two-year pre-contract deal for the Seagulls after spending the last 4 months at Brighton on loan.

Painter said:

'I'll always remember the good times at Swansea, especially the promotion campaign from League One.

'Apart from my injury last season it's been really enjoyable. The fans have always been brilliant with me and I will miss them.

'But I need to play regularly to push myself back into the Championship again, hopefully with Brighton.'

Brighton boss Gus Poyet was happy to sign him:

'He has proved his fitness, and become a popular addition with the supporters, who I am sure will be delighted that he has signed a permanent deal with the club.'
