Sousa Confident For Barnsley Clash

Sousa Confident For Barnsley Clash

Paulo Sousa is in confident mood and insists his side will be at their best on Saturday when they face Barnsley at home.

Swansea City have won just one game in 8 after last weekend's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Bristol City - an opportunity missed to extend the gap on Blackpool who lost 4-1 away at Newcastle United.

The Swans boss told BBC Sport that he set high targets at this club when he first arrived and aims to meet them this season:

'When I arrived, the chairman [Huw Jenkins] asked me to save ourselves and to stabilise in the Championship for one or two years more and then we can prepare better in the future.

'Straight away I put the target higher because I'm always like that.

'I like to have challenges and big challenges and for me from the beginning this is a big challenge. Everyone around me said I was crazy.

'I believe I can achieve important levels.

'I put this target very high and at this moment in the present, it's not enough for me, it's not enough for the players - they deserve much more than that.'

The Swans have struggled for form in recent weeks and a lack of wins has seen us drop down to 6th and just 2 points ahead of Blackpool in 7th.

Sousa believes his side can beat anyone in the League on their day:

'If we're at our best level we can beat everyone in the Championship,'

'We want to finish well this season and we want to keep the position we've had these last four months.

'I believe that for next Saturday, we will be at our best.'

Go out and attack then for a change, Sousa. Don't worry about conceding goals, just score more than the opposition. That's what football's about--GOALS.
