Sousa Hits Out Over Lack Of Funds

Sousa Hits Out Over Lack Of Funds

Paulo Sousa has shown his disappointment and frustration over a lack of funds which has prevented him from strengthening his squad for the final few months of the season.

Vital Swansea understands that the Swansea City manager was looking to bring in a striker from abroad, but the board declined his requests for funds to make the signing.

Sousa told the Evening Post that he wanted to strengthen recently to help our push for the play-offs, but transfer funds were not made available to him.

'We can do something else if we were more prepared at the beginning of March. But things did not happen as I expected.

'I have said it three or four times - with the injuries we had, we needed some cover straightaway.

'We were in a good moment of form and we could have got more good results if we'd been able to have some turnover of players.

'I think we had a big opportunity in that moment. We were in good form - we were having a fantastic season at that time.'

When asked why no new arrivals came, he answered: 'You know better than me. The chairman has already spoken with you - he did an interview with you and he said they make the decisions, so we don't need to go through that.'

The Swans had a busy period in March which Sousa recognised and he was hoping to strengthen beforehand to ensure a good end to the season, but we've struggled for form lately and are holding on to a play-off spot.

A big concern for the club now is whether or not we can match Paulo Sousa's ambitions in the near future.

The Swansea boss has spoken out recently of his desire to manage in the Premier League, and unless we provide him with more transfer money, or he is able to work wonders with a small budget, there's a big concern as to whether we ourselves can offer him that Premier League ambition of his, because the way he's been speaking to the press lately, he's hardly going to wait around for a Premier League management opportunity.

maybe he shouldn't of wasted the £800k on Beattie and wages on Trunds who never plays, look at your own decisions before having a go at the board

trundle wasn't his decision, there were rumours on here and other sites that the board wanted him back to boost crowds. beattie seemed like a panick buy

Then play a more attacking game and bombard the opposition's goal.

Right Sousa Has Brokenb Are Transfer Record 3 Times This Season Here Are Some Players He Has Spent Money On. Jordi Lopez - Got Him On Free But Is On Huge Wage Bill And Doesn't Make The Reserves. Craig Beattie - £800,000 Craig Is On One Of Biggest Earning Players And Is Playing For The Reserves. David Cotterill - £600,000 This Guy Has Bag's Of Talent And Doesen't Get Much Game Time. So He Has Had Money To Spend This Season So He Can't Say He Hasn't Been Given Much.

So now it's the Board... These excuses are getting weak now, refs, pitch, injuries, internationals, weather... Just put your hands up and take responsibility for still not getting a regular side together. Make a conviction and stick with the same core team for our final games please.

It sounds like Sousa is getting his excuses ready just in case we don't reach the play-offs. No-one else is to blame for the style of play his team produces. We were in such a strong position a few games ago, a good manager would have cemented that strong position. We may still get there but I can't see us winning the play-offs even if we do. It may be that the Swans need an attacking manager, someone to inject some excitement back to The Liberty, God knows we haven't seen much this season. Am I alone in being less than impressed by Sousa's style of play?
13/04/2010 17:22:00
Sousa's style of played suited me enough when it started working after a poor start to the season. We were keeping clean sheets and winning by the odd goal and we looked strong, but now we're struggling and our play is far from exciting to watch at the Liberty Stadium. Although realistically I don't see us winning the play-offs, we really need to be aiming to stay in the top 6 to generate some money and to persuade some of those season ticket holders who are undecided yet to renew them for next year.

Agreed Kevin, We do need to finish in the top six. It does frustrate me though that he isn't getting the best out of these players. I really feel they are frustrated that they can't get forward more---Leon Britton and Darren Pratley are probably our most gifted players but they seem to be under orders not to get forward. I have actually seen Paulo Sousa waving Darren Pratley back behind the ball. That's a key I think in why we don't score regularly.

We are supposed to have such a wonderful scout that came from Newcastle why couldn't he find us a goal scorer we lose five one to Blackpool and he gets a defender in on loan when we need a bloody goal scorer please don't play Pintado this Saturday
