Adkins Backs Swansea City For Play-Offs

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins said Swansea City were 'exceptional' yesterday and backs them to finish in the play-offs.

The Iron suffered a 3-0 defeat to Swansea City yesterday at the Liberty Stadium and Adkins complimented the home side's performance.

'Swansea were exceptional today, weren't they?'

'People have got to highlight what a good side Swansea are. They are a fantastic side and the way they played today, the majority of Championship teams would have had a very, very challenging game here.

'Through open play they will take most teams to the cleaners, and we came with a gameplan to try to nullify them all over the pitch.

'We wanted to stop them passing and to an extent that worked, but the big disappointment for us was that we conceded the first two goals from set-plays.

'We weathered the early storm and it was probably a little bit against the run of play when they got the first goal, but people didn't do their jobs for that one or the second.

'But saying that, Swansea have shown their strength in depth by being able to change things round to give them a freshness.

'I see them getting into the play-offs. The playing surface here is magnificent and they have a cutting edge going for them at the moment.'

Swansea City have lacked goals and wins lately which has seen our gap from 7th drop significantly in the last few weeks, but hopefully yesterday's result will give us the boost we need to end the season strongly and stay in the top 6.
