Scunthorpe Boss Adkins Praises Swansea City

Scunthorpe Boss Adkins Praises Swansea City

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins praised Swansea City after watching them beat his side 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

Adkins was obviously disappointed with his side's performance, as they hardly got a shot on target during the 90 minutes as the Swans dominated from start to finish.

'We knew before the game that Swansea were an excellent footballing side and I felt we were in the match until they scored their first goal.

'Before then we had enjoyed a good period of possession and I felt their goal had come against the run of play.

'At 2-0 we were always in with a shout but poor defending from ourselves made it 3-0 with around ten minutes left, like on Friday when we lost to Blackpool.

'We were playing a very good side today, who defended resolutely but at times I felt we gave the ball away too cheaply.'

'We are very disappointed to concede at set plays after coming with a plan to nullify Swansea and their counter-attacks.

'But the Swans could take many sides to the cleaners with their style of play.

'The big thing to realise is that Swansea are a great passing side on a superb pitch, but they scored two goals as a result of corner kicks.

'We know 47 points is not enough but we have more home games than away and if we keep our home form going then I'm sure we will get enough points for safety.

'But if you keep giving the ball away as we did then you must expect to be punished.'
