Jenkins: Final Contract Offer For Leon Britton

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has told News of the World that they will not break their wage structure to convince Leon Britton to stay at the Liberty Stadium.

The midfielder, now in his eighth season at the club has received our final offer for a new contract - his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Losing the former West Ham United player would be a massive blow, but Jenkins says they won't be increasing Britton's contract offer in the Summer.

'We've made Leon an offer - and it's our final offer.

'We won't up it at the end of the season. We've made him a good offer, now it's down to him whether he accepts it or not. There's a wage structure at the club and we're not going to break it.

'We'd like Leon to stay but we're not going to get ourselves into trouble by spending money we haven't got.

'Leon is fully aware of our point of view. If he goes there will be no bad feeling about it.'

There have been doubts about Britton's future at Swansea City over the last few months - ever since he said he didn't want to start contract extension talks until the end of the season.

Those doubts increased when the January transfer window opened, and there was plenty of speculation that Leon was leaving the club for either Wigan Athletic or a London club, with QPR and Fulham linked with the 27 year-old. Thankfully we managed to hold on to one of our prized assets but we could still risk losing him for nothing in the Summer.
