Newcastle Looking For A Reaction Against Swans

Newcastle United captain Kevin Nolan and boss Chris Hughton will be looking for a reaction from last night's heavy defeat at Derby County with a win on Saturday against the Swans.

The Championship side slumped to a 3-0 defeat - their first since October 20th, and they'll be looking to re-claim top spot on the weekend when they visit the Liberty Stadium.

Nolan said:

'I said after the Cardiff win on Friday that we should not get carried away, and that is the same again - we shouldn't get carried away by one defeat.

'It's all about how we react now, and that starts with a performance and a win at Swansea on Saturday.

'One result is not going to knock us off our ultimate goal of promotion, and we won't let it.

'We have shown all season we have character when it's needed. There are going to be lows - and Wednesday night was one of them - but we have a chance to bounce back at Swansea, and that is what we have to do.'


Hughton was disappointed to see his side suffer a heavy defeat on their travels - only their 4th of the season.

He told BBC Sport:

'We've got to look at ourselves,' he told BBC Newcastle.

'If we've got ambitions to get promotion we've got to go to places like here [Derby] and get something.'

'What we have is a spirit that never wants to give up and I think you saw that in the second half performance,'

'Even though we didn't create as much as we wanted, even though we conceded goals when we didn't want to, you saw a side that didn't want to give up.

'We have to take it on the chin, congratulate Derby on a victory and make sure that it doesn't happen again.'
