Sousa: Rangel Can Be A Much Better Player

Paulo Sousa believes Angel Rangel can improve and be a much better player.

The Spanish defender hit out at chairman Huw Jenkins this week, blaming him of denying the full back a chance to join Premiership side Fulham. But, Jenkins responded to his claims, saying he was inaccurate with the facts.

Rangel was superb in his first two seasons at the club under former boss Roberto Martinez but this year he hasn't looked the same player.

Many fans would agree with Paulo Sousa I think that he can improve and show his true quality and potential.

'Angel is a Swansea player, therefore I expect the best from him and I hope he can produce that this season,'

'Technically and tactically, in my opinion, Angel can make a lot of progress.

'He is a good player with a good understanding of the game, but he can be much better than he has been until now and hopefully he can do it with us.

'When the player is consistent and he grows all the time, the chance of going to the Premier League never goes.

'If Angel keeps doing what he has done or does even better, I'm sure at the end of the season or in the next season or two, he will have other opportunities which will probably be better (than Fulham).'

Rangel's recent criticisms of the chairman are unlikely to cost him his place in the side on Saturday, but Sousa warned:

'His head is not a concern because if he is not right he will not train well and he will not play well,'

'If Angel wants to play in the Premier League, he needs to train well to play for us, then he needs to play well to keep other clubs interested.

'We will help him with his motivation, but that is the same with all the players. He does not need special attention and I will treat him as I normally do.'
