Jenkins: Bothroyd Too Expensive To Sign
Swansea City chairman today revealed that he contacted our bitter rivals Cardiff City about the possibility of signing striker Jay Bothroyd.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers frontman scored against the Swans in our 3-2 win, and it came as quite a surprise that the Swansea chief enquired about buying him.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones told their Official Site though that the Swans didn't make a bid for the striker, but called to see if he was available to buy. The Bluebirds could be looking for up to £3m for Bothroyd which is way out of our price range:
'We have spoken to Dave Jones about the possibility of signing Jay,'
'We were interested in a number of strikers and that was one conversation we had.
'He is not a player that is within our price range though. Cardiff's valuation for Jay is miles out from where we put ours.
'That is where things stand at the moment. We couldn't come anywhere near Cardiff's valuation.
'Whether you are looking at the Championship, above or below, you want players that suit what we believe is right for our formation and Jay is one of them.'
Bothroyd was linked with a move to Premiership side Aston Villa last week and enquiring about a Cardiff City player like Bothroyd was pretty pointless really.
