Tate Surprised by Our League Position

Swansea City's stand-in skipper Alan Tate said he's surprised at how high up we are in the Championship table as we approach the busy Christmas period.

The former Manchester United defender said he never thought we'd be up in the play-offs at this time of the season.

Despite our promising start to the season, Tate says talk of promotion would be ridiculous:

"If you`d said at the start of the season we would have been fifth at Christmas I would have said no,"

"Being honest, considering what went on in the summer and the teams in the league, I thought we`d be around 10th or 11th.

"Anyone here would have taken fifth place at Christmas but we`ve adapted well to the change around and that`s all you can do.

"It`s a massive improvement on last season and hopefully we`ll keep going.

"Finishing in this position will give us a chance to be promoted to the Premier League and that`s everyone`s goal.

"But it would be ridiculous to talk about promotion right now because there`s so many teams in there who have strong squads.

"Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and QPR will also get themselves back into it, but we seem to be OK defensive-wise and if we can score more goals then we`ll give ourselves a chance."


The Swans face Reading next on Boxing Day at the Majeski Stadium before we host Crystal Palace on December 28th.
