Swans 4 Spireites 0

Swans 4 Spireites 0

Swansea City convincingly booked a place in the play-offs by beating Chesterfield 4-0 at Saltergate.

Kenny Jackett took a gamble by dropping Trundle and starting Leon Knight and it paid off as the striker scored his second hatrick for the Swans.

Britton returned to the starting line-up after a groin injury while 17 year-old Shaun MacDonald deservedly kept his place in the side but this time on the left wing in place of injured Kevin McLeod.

Tudur-Jones was also back in the heart of midfield as O'Leary was out with a foot injury.

The combination of Fallon and Knight was proving too much of a threat to the hosts as 2 goals each side of the break got us the 3 points we needed to absolutely guarantee a play-off place.

Our season will hopefully now run for another 3 weeks as we play Brentford in the first leg at the Liberty Stadium on Thursday night.

After just 5 minutes, Knight scored his first. Tudur-Jones won the ball and his long through ball from our own half picked out Knight's run and he finished the move well with a shot that nutmegged the keeper.

But due to one of the most stupid rules in the game, he was then booked for taking his shirt off during the celebrations.

Chesterfield then looked to get back in the game during a good spell for the Spireites. Gueret made a good save to deny Allison.

Larkin nearly scored as his header beat Gueret but it struck the post

After his brace against Southend, Fallon kept up his scoring form by getting another goal after 33 minutes.

Since when did we score from corners? We did today though and despite Rory being marked by 2 defenders, he rose well to head Robinson's corner into the top right hand corner.

Knight had another chance to score in the first half when he was put through by Fallon but his shot went wide of the target.

We continued to make their keeper busy as we went all out to increase our lead. Fallon headed over while Robinson, Knight and Monk were all denied by good saves from the keeper.

Leon Knight made it 3-0 on 79 minutes. Fallon was replaced by Akinfenwa 2 minutes earlier and the sub flicked the ball on to Knight, and after noticing the keeper came racing out of his area, he flicked the ball over his head and into an empty net.

This sent around 2,200 traveling jacks into raptures as they knew that a play off place was in the bag.

Knight then completed his hatrick with a minute left on the clock. A poor header from a defender fell to Knight inside the box. With a quick turn of pace, he went clear of his marker and slipped a shot passed the oncoming keeper.

The Swans certainly did things the easy way this time and now we need to keep up this impressive form when we face Brentford in the first leg of the first tie on Thursday night.

The headlines today suggest Knight is unsure on whether he'll be dropped or not for that game. There's no way he can drop the two strikers who scored the goals that have put us in the play-offs!

COME ON YOU SWANS!

I reckon Brentford are there for the taking. Id rather play these than Barnsley or Huddersfield over two legs.
