'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Open invitation to Swans fans

Dear Swans Fans

The Supporters Trust will undertake one of it’s proudest moments this weekend when we officially unveil the statue of Swansea’s finest, Ivor Allchurch MBE, outside the Stadium prior to the game against Oldham Athletic.

The concept of this statue started off little over twelve months ago with an idea in my head at half time in a league game and from there is grew and grew. When I first realised that the generosity of the fans would take the idea past a bronze bust to a full life-sized statue it was a realisation that Ivor really was the greatest player Swansea have ever had.

We are of course grateful to the likes of Alan Shearer, Sir Trevor Brooking, The FAW, Swansea City, the Coty and County of Swansea Council and more for their donations but make no mistake without the input of the everyday supporter this statue would never have happened. You are the guys who have dug deep in your pockets with contributions to bucket collections, golf days, social events, raffles and just superbly generous donations. And you did it all because you realised that Ivor Allchurch means Swansea City and we will probably never see another of his stature in our lifetime or even the lifetimes of those that succeed us.

And for these reasons, I am officially extending an invitation to each and every one of you to attend the official unveiling of the statue this weekend ahead of the game against Oldham Athletic. We will be unveiling the statue at it’s permanent home just off the main concourse looking out over the roundabout leading into the stadium at around 12.30. I am pleased to confirm that Ivor’s family will be in attendance and we are extremely grateful to Kevin Johns for agreeing to host a short memorial service ahead of the unveiling.

In addition to that we do of course have other invited guests as well as past players of Swansea Town/City being in attendance.

To me Ivor was simply the greatest and Saturday is a very proud moment not just for us as a Trust but for everyone as fans of Swansea City and for that reason I would love to see you all in attendance.

Yours in Swansea City

Ron Knuszka
