Jenkins Rubbishes Williams Rumours

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins has rubbished rumours linking Ashley Williams with a January move to a Premiership club.

The Welsh international has recently won awards for Wales Player of the Year and Wales Club Player of the Year. He also captained Wales in their 3-0 Friendly win against Scotland and with that, the defender has linked with moves to Wigan Athletic and Sunderland.

He's been a consistent performer at the back for the Swans, helping us keep 10 clean sheets this season.

Huw Jenkins explained to the Evening Post that with his success this year, it was obvious that there was going to be speculation about his future at the club.

A link to team up again with former boss Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic was inevitable, but Huw Jenkins insists he's going nowhere:

'These sorts of rumours are just part of football,'

'When anybody is relatively successful in the Championship, there is always something about players moving on.

'Players will get good publicity when their team is doing well.

'Ashley is a strong defender, he is playing well and he has had extra publicity recently because of his achievements at international level.

'Any speculation that comes with that is just something we have to put up with.'

Ashley has recently signed a long-term deal and we wanted him tied down,' Jenkins added.

'In this day and age you can never say what is going to happen in the future, but what we do know is Ashley is settled in Swansea and he enjoys playing for our club.

'I haven't heard from anyone about him — there have been no inquiries about any of our players, and we hope it stays that way.'
