Williams Attracting Premiership Interest

According to reports, Wigan Athletic Roberto Martinez is set to raid Swansea City again as the Spaniard is interested in defender Ashley Williams.

The former Swans manager is looking to take another one of our players, after signing top scorer Jason Scotland and Espanyol loanee Jordi Gomez in the Summer.

The reports come from the News of the World, who don't exactly have the best track record with this sort of story. It's quite an obvious story as well, I'm sure Williams is attracting interest from Premiership clubs, especially considering he was recently named Wales' player and club player of the year. He also captained John Toshack's side to victory in yesterday's friendly match against Scotland.

It also makes it easier to include Wigan in the list of interested clubs (along with Sunderland and Newcastle), considering Martinez is now manager.

The centre back, who can also play in a holding midfield role, has recently signed a new 4-year contract at the Liberty Stadium so we won't be getting rid of him on the cheap, and chairman Huw Jenkins is sure to hold out for a large 7-figure fee.

Many managers and players, including some of his own team-mates have tipped Williams for the Premiership, but hopefully it'll be in the near future with Swansea City.

I think it goes without saying that we'd like to keep him, although I would hope he'd be the first to say NO to Wigan, afterall, they are not doing that well, and I'd expect them to be in the Championship next season - although after JS & JG I don't honestly think the Wigan fans would want another Swansea player.

if Ash was 2-3 years younger right now he could have esily gone all the way to Milan or something. I really hope he does well whether it be with Swansea or not - he works hard, keeps it simple, and defends like a beast and Wales needs players like him.

Maybe he can take Fairy Dodde with him and see if someone at Wigan can fix him.
