Rangel Backs Williams For Top FAW Award

Angel Rangel is backing his fellow team-mate Ashley Williams to win Wales' player of the yearprize at tonight's FAW awards.

The former Stockport County captain has been a regular for Swansea City since joining the club for £400,000 two years ago, he soon earned his first cap for Wales and is now a first team regular in John Toshack's side.

Right back Angel Rangel told the Evening Post:

'He is a massive contender for the award in my eyes. I think he should win because he has performed so well and consistently for us and for Wales he is strong also,'

'In every game he plays for Swansea and Wales you can see his quality, and he is improving all the time.

'His performances last season played a big part in us finishing where we did and he must be very close to winning the award.

'I will be surprised if he doesn't win anything.'

Garry Monk has previously told the press that he tips Williams to play in the Premiership soon, and Rangel also believes Ash has the quality for the top flight:

'Against Portsmouth, for example, he marked Peter Crouch and against Fulham there was (Bobby) Zamora and (Andy) Johnson and he did really well.

'For Wales he has marked some of the top strikers in the world, and he hasn't looked out of place at all.'

'Big Ash can play for Wales for years to come. He can also play in the Premier League with no problem at all, but we are more than happy to have him here at Swansea and help us finish in the top six.'
