Monk Hopes To Sign New Contract
Club captain Garry Monk has given the club a boost as he's looking forward to signing a new contract at Swansea City.
The centre back is in talks about a new deal and is close to joining Alan Tate and Ashley Williams who both put pen to paper on new 4-year contracts recently.
Monk told the Evening Post:
'I am not interested in running my contract down,'
'Some players do run contracts down so they finish up as free agents, but I have said all along I want to stay and the sooner we can sort it out the better.
'I enjoy my football at Swansea and I am settled in the city, so hopefully it's just a matter of time before we sort out the small details.
'I am loving life at the moment and this is one of my favourite seasons. Every game is a big, big game for us and every one is exciting.'
Monk also said that he's been proud to have been involved in the club's march through the Leagues from the bottom division.
Since arriving in 2004 under then-manager Kenny Jackett, Monk has experienced two promotions to reach the Championship, he said:
'This is my sixth season at Swansea and the club is getting better and better,'
'I wasn't here the year we survived relegation to the Conference, but I know all about that and I know the boys who were involved.
'When I arrived we were still in the bottom division, but since then we have gone up through the leagues and I feel proud to have been part of that. I want to keep going and going because I believe that if we get things right, we can go further.'
