Trundle: 'I Deserved To Be Dropped'

Striker Lee Trundle admitted he deserved to be dropped to the bench last week for the game against Oldham.

After the shambolic performance at home to Rotherham, Jackett made 6 changes to the side.

Trundle accepted his decision and said it could benefit him when we play Southend at home this weekend. He said:

''I don't know whether it was because we'd had two games in quick succession over Easter, but Rotherham was probably my worst performance of the season,'' he said.

''I felt tired and lethargic. In the second half especially, I didn't feel I had the energy or the power to go past anyone.

''I spoke with the gaffer after the game and, while you want to play every week, I think it was a good thing that he left me out. The rest will help me.

''Besides, we have four good strikers at the club now.

''Oldham's defence wasn't the quickest and when you've got Leon Knight's pace and Rory Fallon's flick-ons, it would be stupid not to play them.''

I think a lot of fans will have agreed with him as well. He was lucky to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes against Rotherham and has scored just once since November.

The top scorer had hoped to beat last season's tally of 23 and that looked a certainty towards the end of last year.

He added: ''I've not scored for a little while but hopefully I can change that on Saturday. Personally I think I should be playing because it's the sort of big game I thrive in.''

I think he's swallowing a little pride there and so he should after some poor performances .

Isn't it a terrific ray of sunshine to see a player make a public announcement as to how bad he's been playing. A refreshing change.
