Rangel Apologises For Red Card

Swansea City right-back Angel Rangel has apologised for getting sent off in a Carling Cup defeat against Scunthorpe United.

The Spaniard was the last of three Swansea players to be shown a red card in an extraordinary night at the Liberty Stadium.

Rangel admitted that frustration got the better of him as he elbowed a player in the face in an aerial challenge.

He told the Evening Post:

'I am not going to do that sort of thing again,'

'I am not really an angry type of person and I am not an angry player.

'Yes, I have had a few arguments with players on the pitch, but I've never got involved before.

'The frustration got to me in the Scunthorpe game, but I won't let it happen again.

'If I have to embarrass a player in the future, I will do it with the ball.'

'I have to apologise for the red card,'

'The referee punished us all the time in a game where I thought we were the much better team.

'It felt as though we were playing against 14 players — 11 on their team plus the three officials.

'It's not an excuse — as a professional you have to be very competitive but you can never hit a player.

The defender has served the 3-match ban and he's hoping to make a return to the side tomorrow when we travel to Barnsley, but youngster Jazz Richards has done a good job as his replacement.

'Jazz has shown that he has the quality to be in our team,'

'He is strong defensively and he likes to get forward, which is important because of the way we play.

'If he keeps his place I will understand, but of course I hope to get back in.

'Right-back has been my position for the last 100 games or so, but now it is down to the manager.'
