Van Der Gun Watches Reserves Draw

Swansea City target Cedric Van Der Gun watched Swansea City Reserves draw 1-1 against Swindon this afternoon, suggesting even more that he is set to join the club.

The Dutch winger walked along the touchline just before the start of the second with fellow countryman Dorus De Vries, as the crowd gave him a welcome applause.

Ferrie Bodde was back in action for the first time in 10 months and he was spraying some excellent long range passes out to the wingers Casey Thomas and trialist van Dijk.

Reserves boss Colin Pascoe decided to name two youth players in the centre of defence, and they were joined by senior full backs Matty Collins and Fede Bessone. The two youngsters looked nervous early on, and they were making some basic errors which nearly cost us a goal.

Swindon Town were the better side in the first half as they found it a lot easier to get into decent goalscoring positions.

At the other end, trialist Van Dijk looks a good prospect, he's a skilful player who looks confident despite playing in a different environment just a day after joining the squad.

Idrizaj should have given us the lead with a superb and easy chance. Bodde sent in a low cross and the unmarked Austrian side-footed his shot well over the bar from inside the box. He had another chance a few moments later but his soft shot was easily dealt with the visiting goalkeeper.

We were struggling to find any shape into our play but the game improved in the second half.

Swansea City had more possession and we were linking up far better than in the first half.

Van Dijk continued to cause problems on the left wing and he got the better of his full backs a few times and he was able to get a few crosses into the box. He then gave us the lead. Chad Bond received the ball inside the box from Collins, he cleverely back-healed it to the on-coming Van Dijk who finished well, firing the ball into the roof of the net.

The lead didn't last long however. The defence made another mistake, this time it was costly as Charlie Austin was free to net from Thompson's cross.

In general, I suppose it's fair to say it was a deserved point for both sides. Swindon were better than us in the first half but the Swans improved in the second half and we created some better chances.

I also spotted Cedric Van Der Gun at half time, walking back to his seat along with fellow Dutchman Dorus De Vries, which suggest even more now that he is set to sign a contract with us.
