Tate Signs New 4-Year Contract

Alan Tate has signed a new 4-year contract with Swansea City.

The defender's initial contract expired at the end of the current season but he has put pen to paper in a new deal to extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said:

"To have someone like Alan signing a long-term deal is a start and it's a step in the right direction,"

"We are working our way through the current squad to make sure we have commitment from our players for the next few years.

"We are starting to settle things down at the club after the changes during the close season.

"I think we all know about Alan's commitment and loyalty to the club and the fact he is happy living in the city, and that's nice to see."

The versatile player, who can play anywhere in defence as well as in midfield has proved to be a true Jack since he joined the club on loan nearly 7 years ago. He made the loan move permanently in 2004 under former boss Brian Flynn.

The former Manchester United trainee told the press in pre-season that he had a difficult time at the club under Kenny Jackett, but lately he has enjoyed a much more brighter spell after earning a regular place at left back in the absence of Marcos Painter.

Leon Britton is another player whose contract expires in June 2010 and Swansea City should start putting the talks in place about tying the midfielder up to a longer deal.
