'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Clean Sheet Pleases Williams The Most

Ashley Williams told BBC Sport that keeping a clean sheet yesterday was more pleasing than scoring the goal to give us our first win of the season.

The Welsh international defender got the all important goal on 69 minutes, Nathan Dyer's acrobatic attempt came back off the bar Williams fired the ball into the right hand corner with his weaker left foot.

Williams said:

'That's two on the bounce now, two clean sheets, so that's the pleasing thing more than anything.'

'The ball bounced out, bounced off the bar and I concentrated on keeping it on target.'

'I think young Kerry Morgan was running in. I could hear him, but I couldn't leave it. I had to just try and strike it.

The centre back is now our top goalscorer in the League scoring, both of our goals so far in the Championship. Stephen Dobbie also has 2 to his name after netting a brace in the Carling Cup win against Brighton.

He added:

'To come here and get our first win was brilliant,'

'That's all we needed. That's what we deserved as well. We played well, got a clean sheet and we can go from there.

'Through periods of every game this season we've been on top and done what we've wanted to do.

'We just need to prolong it for the whole game and manage the game a little bit better and win. The last two games we've done that, so it's pleasing.'

Swansea City are back in Carling Cup action at home on Tuesday evening as Scunthorpe arrive at the Liberty Stadium for the second round tie.
