Monk: We More Than Matched Them

Garry Monk said that Swansea City more than matched Middlesbrough today despite losing 3-0 against Gareth Southgate's side.

Sorry Mr Captain, but I think you're miles off with that statement. Our opponents today outplayed us for most of the game, outfought us in midfield and they could have extended their lead further in the second half.

The skipper had a completely different view of the game than us Swans fans, he told the Official site:

'We had some great chances, especially in the second-half when it was still 1-0 with my header and Dobbs (Stephen Dobbie) shooting wide from close-range, and who knows which way it could have gone had one of those gone in.

'I thought we more than matched them but we were punished by Middlesbrough because of some of our mistakes.

'We had a large share of the possession but just didn't turn it into goals, but to give them credit they only had five attempts on target and three went in.

'But it's early days yet, we're only two games in and we have a game on Tuesday (against Reading) to make it right.'

didnt see the match overseas but report i read dont suggest we had any chance of even a point. So Monk, thank you for the optimism, but they were the better side on the day (or so it seems from my overseas-point-of-view).

merenoob - we would have had a chance if dobbie could have got his shots on target, he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo yesterday
