Sousa: Middlesbrough Are Good Enough To Go Up

Paulo Sousa believes Middlesbrough have the quality to make an instant return to the Premiership this year.

Gareth Southgate brings his side to the Liberty Stadium tomorrow following last season's relegation from the Premier League.

The Swansea City boss told the Evening Post that he believes they are good enough to win automatic promotion:

'The only way for Middlesbrough is to get promotion,'

'They have a lot of quality — the right players already — and they will go into every game this season looking to win because each player knows he wants to be in the Premier League.

'They have already played there, they want to return there and I think they are good enough to finish in the top two.

'I don't know if they will lose some players before the transfer window closes, but if they do they can still look to bring others in.'


The Swans started their season with a disappointing performance and defeat at Leicester, but a 3-0 win against Brighton in the Carling Cup in midweek would have given the players a must needed confidence boost ahead of Saturday's game.

Sousa also admitted that he is finding it difficult to name his starting team after some good performances on Tuesday night.

'The performance on Tuesday has given me some difficulties in picking the team,'

'We saw some good things against Brighton and got some confidence back. Now we have another opportunity to give some happiness to our supporters and I am confident we can do it.'
