Sousa Not 100% Happy With 3-0 Win

Paulo Sousa says he wasn't 100% happy with tonight's performance, despite beating Brighton 3-0 in the Carling Cup first round.

The Portuguese seems to be a manager who is hard to please which can only be a good thing. He believes his side can play much better than what they did this evening and he realises that he needs 'new players'.

Sousa said:

'It was a good result but I'm not 100% happy with the performance.

'We are building as a team but we can improve. 3-0 is not always a good performance.

'I care about the club and the squad. Of course, we need new players but not as many as seven or eight. Some players have come in and done well.

'We are missing quality players and important ones like Darren Pratley, Ferrie Bodde and Joe Allen. We have also lost 40 goals and it is not easy.

'It will take time but we will get better and better.'

"It's not easy for a manager or for the club when there is new manager, new staff, new medical department - it's not easy to get things 100 per cent perfect straight away.

"We need to build things back up slowly. It needs time. But I care about the future of this club and the people involved.

"But I believe in the players I've got and the players that are due back from injury that we can take another step.

"It was nice to get the victory and I was pleased with a number of things. We made quicker decisions; there was a better link between the sectors; good triangles; better decision around the box and a better personality.

"But we still need to improve other areas.''

The 38 year-old boss told today's Evening Post that he expects to sign players within the next few days, with a striker being his top priority.

Stephen Dobbie staked his claim for a starting place on Saturday with a second half brace to put the game beyond doubt.
