Sousa Targeting A Top 10 Finish This Season

Swansea City manager Paulo Sousa has told the News of the World that he is targeting a top 10 finish in the Championship this season.

Rather than looking to push us on for a play-off campaign this year, Sousa will be happy to see us finish in the top 10 once again, as he expects a tough second year for the Swans in the Championship.

"I think there are 14 teams in the Championship which are capable of top six finish."
The 38 year-old believes there are 10 teams who can challenge for promotion, he said:

'In my opinion there are ten clubs who can challenge for automatic promotion.'

'We'll have difficult moments and when they happen we'll need the fans behind us.'

'The second season is always harder for the players and for the club.

'Last season the other teams in the Championship didn't know that much about Swansea so there was also a surprise element. But Swansea are not a surprise anymore.

'This season we'll see what our level is. Our target is to stay in the top 10.'

Swansea City's season will be much tougher than last year for a number of reasons. As Sousa said, the second year is always harder and everyone is now fully aware of our potential.

Plus, there are a lot of quality sides to compete with. The three relegated from the Premiership will be looking for an instant return to the top flight and then there's the likes of Reading, Sheffield United and Bristol City who will be looking to improve on last year's efforts.

Only 1 goal against Port Talbot? disappointing

I would like to see a play-off place this season, but can't help but agree with Sousa says except we are now 'visioned' by a different manager so the surprise element is still there. Anyway top 10 is realistic.
