Swansea City Targetting Defender Whitbread?
Swansea City are believed to targeting Millwall defender Zak Whitbread, with reports suggesting we could bid up to £700,000 for the 25 year-old.
The Swans would face some difficult competition for his services though, with a number of other Championship clubs showing an interest, such as West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Doncaster Rovers.
Millwall accepted a £700,000 bid from Peterborough but the move didn't go ahead because of Whitbread's wage demands. The Lions are looking to sell the defender after he rejected a new contract, his existing one expires next year as the Lions hope to avoid selling him for free in 2010.
The Swans could equal Posh's bid, as well as offering Whitbread better personal terms without breaking our strict wage structure.
Whitbread has made 68 League starts since joining the club three years ago, as well as a further 25 appearances whilst on loan.
The 25 year-old has been a regular and consistent performer at the back for Millwall and it would be a major blow for them if they lost one of their key players.
