Angel Rangel says he thinks he'll still be a Swansea City player next season, despite him being linked to a number of clubs this Summer.
The right back has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Celtic but there has been no contact yet from Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic. Our former manager has already signed 2 players who played for the Swans last term, Jason Scotland and loanee Jordi Gomez.
Rangel showed his disappointment at not being contacted by Martinez since he left in June, he told Wales Online:
"Roberto was the person that brought me over and gave me the chance to play in British football," the £3m-rated defender explained.
"When he left I thought he would at least call me to say, 'Thanks for your two years and all the best with the new manager.` But that didn`t happen.
"I wish him all the best but, to be honest, I did think he would ring to say he wanted to take me with him. That didn`t happen so I am just focused on Swansea now.
"There`s still time for him to call and the summer is always unpredictable in football.
"But, when you are in a team like this you know it will be another exciting year."
Angel Rangel has been one of our star performers in the last two years, and has a number of skills that make him a top quality defender. He has solid in defence and also has the confidence and ability to get forward well. His consistent performances could see him play at a higher level, and while many fans thought we'd find it difficult to hang on to him this Summer, there's been no reports of any club making an official bid for him.
While the likes of Jason Scotland and Ferrie Bodde showed a desire to leave the Swans, Rangel says he owes it to the club for vastly improving his career, he added:
"I`m disappointed Roberto hasn`t called in the sense that the Premiership is always the dream,"
"But then, I`m not disappointed because I`m happy in the Championship with Swansea, the club that gave me everything.
"I feel at home here, I feel loved and I have a lot of friends here.
"So everything is going well and, while it would be amazing to go to the Premiership, it will also be amazing to stay here.
"Hopefully the new manager will bring in some new faces and it`s exciting times here.
"It`s nice to have new things in a club. I`m looking forward to having a fresh start and hopefully we can achieve something better."
"I still think I will be a Swansea player next season,"
"I spoke to the gaffer and he said he wanted me here and I said that I wanted to be here.
"There have been so many rumours over the last few weeks. But, as I have always said, they are only rumours and my mind is fully focused on Swansea.
"I have been training really hard and I haven`t spoken to any other clubs. So, hopefully, I will be here and fit for the start of the season."![]()
