Swansea City Agree Terms To Sign Lopez

Swansea City have agreed personal terms with Jordi Lopez and is set to sign a 2-year deal with the club over the weekend.

It will be Paulo Sousa's first signing since taking over as Manager and it'll be our third arrival this Summer, after Nathan Dyer and Stephen Dobbie.

The Spanish midfielder has been at the top of Sousa's wish list since taking over at the Liberty Stadium and he has held several talks with the Manager and chairman in the last few weeks.

Lopez worked with Sousa for 3 months last season when they were both at QPR. Lopez impressed during his spell at Loftus Road with his passing and set piece abilities.

The 28 year-old will return to the Liberty Stadium over the weekend to sign a contract and to complete a medical, as we hope to get the deal done in readiness for the pre-season tour in Spain.

Huw Jenkins told the Official Site:

'Jordi is due to have a medical on Monday with a view to completing the deal and flying to Spain with the squad on Tuesday for a week-long training camp,''

QPR fans' views on Jordi Lopez:

'I thought Jordi added a touch of class to our midfield where it was desperately needed last season. Gavin Mahon and Mikele Leigertwood were underperforming and inconsistent and he gave us that unknown quantity in the holding role. He would sit deep and pick out passes, a la Beckham against Andorra, without ever truly seeming too involved in the fixture in my opinion.

His goal against Bristol City was classy, he tried a similar free-kick a few minutes earlier but it was thwarted by Basso. He had another go and planted it to pin point perfection into the top right hand corner, beautiful dip and venom in the strike.

aying that I didn't feel he was worth breaking the bank for, by all accounts we offered him a decent deal to stay at the club but he preferred to go elsewhere. We could get a younger player of equal ability for the same kind of cash - the question is... will we?'

Boxer

'Think Jordi was definitely worth bartering with a bit more over wages, he was a class above any other central midfielder last season. He actually looked composed on the ball and picked out intelligent passes, as well as getting stuck in, which I admit caught me by surprise too! His freekicks were consistently excellent, never bombing them over the bar or well wide. Compared to Legs (who is decent but hardly ever shows it), Mahon(who I like, but is not a creative central midfielder) and Rowlandinho(who I thought had a torrid 1st half of the season before injury), I'd definitely pay a bit more for Jordi.'
Guttermouth

'I agree he was a class act, just the type of experienced player you need to inspire the other members of the team. They would have learned a lot from him, and may I dare say, been instrumental in improving the quality of football played.'
ImSitiv

'To make it simple: Jordi could have been for us what Makelele was for Chelskum. Was one of the most valuable players on the pitch without being given the credit for it.'

Sousa has wanted him for a while for a reason. He showed signs of brilliance under Sousa at QPR and should be an instant success at Swansea. Wish him the best of luck - just do us a favour and don't score a last minute equaliser against us.
