Lopez Moves Closer To Joining Swansea City

Wales Online believes that Jordi Lopez has moved a step closer to joining Swansea City.

Chairman Huw Jenkins joined Paulo Sousa in Oporto Portugal this week to hold more talks with the former QPR midfielder about joining the club.

The Wales on Sunday understands that Sousa wants to make Jordi Lopez is first signing since taking over at the Liberty Stadium, having worked with the Spaniard at QPR for 3 months last season.

There is concern and worry amongst some Swansea City fans as we still wait for the club to strengthen the squad for the new campaign.

Huw Jenkins has ensured the supporters that signings will be made, but Sousa will want to assess what he has first before before deciding what types of players he needs.

We asked Vital QPR readers for their views on Jordi Lopez, here's what some of them said:

'I thought Jordi added a touch of class to our midfield where it was desperately needed last season. Gavin Mahon and Mikele Leigertwood were underperforming and inconsistent and he gave us that unknown quantity in the holding role. He would sit deep and pick out passes, a la Beckham against Andorra, without ever truly seeming too involved in the fixture in my opinion.

His goal against Bristol City was classy, he tried a similar free-kick a few minutes earlier but it was thwarted by Basso. He had another go and planted it to pin point perfection into the top right hand corner, beautiful dip and venom in the strike.

Saying that I didn't feel he was worth breaking the bank for, by all accounts we offered him a decent deal to stay at the club but he preferred to go elsewhere. We could get a younger player of equal ability for the same kind of cash - the question is... will we?'
Boxer

'Think Jordi was definitely worth bartering with a bit more over wages, he was a class above any other central midfielder last season. He actually looked composed on the ball and picked out intelligent passes, as well as getting stuck in, which I admit caught me by surprise too! His freekicks were consistently excellent, never bombing them over the bar or well wide. Compared to Legs (who is decent but hardly ever shows it), Mahon(who I like, but is not a creative central midfielder) and Rowlandinho(who I thought had a torrid 1st half of the season before injury), I'd definitely pay a bit more for Jordi.'
Guttermouth

'I agree he was a class act, just the type of experienced player you need to inspire the other members of the team. They would have learned a lot from him, and may I dare say, been instrumental in improving the quality of football played.'

Hope this goes well for us, he certainly has flair in his play, but also a passion for wages too. Lets hope we get a good deal that suits everyone.
