Defence Needs Improving The Most

Defence Needs Improving The Most

According to 59% of our readers, the centre of defence needs improving the most next season.

What area of the squad will need improving the most next season?

Striker 5%
Left / Right Wing 15%
Centre Midfield 7%
Full Back 3%
Centre back 59%
Goalkeeper 11%

Quite a surprising majority considering we'll have Iriekpen and Watt back from injury next season.

With the absence of those two, we have struggled at the back since their injuries and Jackett brought in Keith Lowe on loan, but he has now been recalled by Wolves.

However with Kevin Austin likely to leave, who in my opinion isn't quite up to League 1 standard, we will need to replace him with another centre back.

With the expected departure of left winger, Kevin McLeod, next on the list was a left or right winger. The left side especially is lacking width, with Robinson often being played out of position there.

Goalkeeper was next with 11%. Some fans have had doubts with Willy Gueret this season and have called for Murphy to have a run in the side.

It's also worth mentioning that after posting news about Callum Hawthorne possibly signing a professional contract, the 16 year old and under 17's Welsh International is set to see Jackett again after having talks with him and the manager last Friday. We'll post updates as soon as we have them.

Our new poll wants to know where you think we'll finish this year.

Just like troika said though, I think people voted centre back because of the injuries to Izzy and Watt, whereas the poll was aimed improving the side for next season.

We need experience in the centre of defence. Lowe might well turn out to be a good player, but a 30+ warhorse preferably with some Prem experience to run our defence for us is a must. We also need a new goalie.

Well if he's going to stay he'll have to learn to: A. Kick it straight B. Come for corners If he can't do that quickly then we need a new goalie. He's not played well all season.
